# Vicana

> Vicana is an app for learning Spanish by talking. You move into a village in Spain (Olmo de la Sierra, an hour from Madrid) or Mexico (San Miguel del Lago), and AI neighbours with natural voices call you, remember what you told them, and help you speak from your first day. It's coming soon to iPhone, with Android next.

Key facts:

- Who it's for: complete beginners and improvers, aged 14 and over.
- Dialects: the Spanish of central Spain (vosotros, distinción) or Mexican Spanish. Learners choose one and can switch in the app under Me, then Where you live.
- The neighbours in Spain: Marta (runs the café on the plaza), Lucía (the baker), Javier (the pharmacist, originally from Puebla, Mexico) and Andrés (the landlord, from Medellín, Colombia). They're AI characters and can make mistakes.
- How learning works: real-time voice calls with the neighbours at the learner's level; daily voice notes that ask learners to say phrases from memory (retrieval practice); spaced review timed to forgetting; a weekly check; six chapters (arriving, shopping, talking about yourself, getting around, health, and home).
- Pricing: the free plan includes one call a week of up to 4 minutes, chapters 1 and 2, and unlimited voice notes, stories and weekly checks. Plus costs 89.99 US dollars a year with a 7-day free trial, or 17.99 US dollars a month, and includes up to 4 calls a day of up to 10 minutes each and all chapters. Local prices are shown in the app.
- Privacy: voice is streamed to the speech provider and never stored; call transcripts are saved and can be deleted in the app; no ads, no cross-app tracking; the website uses no cookies.
