Good to know
Is Vicana for complete beginners?
Yes. The guided levels start from hola, with English help whenever you need it. If you already speak some Spanish, a short check at the start places you further along.
Spain or Mexico: which Spanish will I learn?
You choose. Olmo de la Sierra speaks the Spanish of central Spain, with vosotros, vale and the "th" in gracias. San Miguel del Lago speaks Mexican Spanish. You can switch later in settings.
Are the neighbours real people?
No. They're AI characters with natural voices, and each has their own job, family and memory of your conversations. That means you can practise whenever you like, and nobody minds mistakes. Like any AI, they can occasionally get something wrong.
What's included for free?
One call a week of up to 4 minutes, the first two chapters, and all the voice notes, stories and weekly checks you like. Plus adds up to four calls a day of up to 10 minutes, and the whole village.
How does the free week work?
Choose Plus yearly and you won't pay anything for 7 days. The app reminds you two days before the week ends. Cancel at least 24 hours before it ends in your App Store settings, and you won't be charged.
Are my conversations recorded?
Your voice isn't saved. It's streamed so your neighbour can hear you, and practice tries stay on your phone only until you close the app. Transcripts are kept so you can reread them, and you can delete them at any time. The privacy policy has the details.
Which phones does it work on?
iPhone first, with Android coming next. You need an internet connection for calls.
